Dr. Amanda Shoemake D.V.M

Dr Shoemake

Dr. Amanda Shoemake was born and raised in Memphis, TN. She grew up with a strong love for animals and at the age of 13, on a whim, she began volunteering at the local Humane Society. Within 6 months, she was spending every free moment working in an animal hospital and she loved every minute of it. Throughout her high school years, she continued working as a Veterinary assistant and quickly made the decision to have Veterinary Medicine be her lifelong career. Dr. Shoemake attended Auburn University, where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. She remained at Auburn until she received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2008.

Dr. Shoemake moved to Las Vegas in June of 2008, when she started working at Durango Animal Hospital. She began working at Durango as Dr. Ricketts, but recently changed her name after she got married. Dr. Shoemake enjoys all aspects of Veterinary Medicine, but has particular interests in Internal Medicine and Surgery.

Dr. Shoemake lives in Las Vegas with her husband Erik, who is a full time masters student and graduate teaching assistant at UNLV. They have 3 dogs, Napoleon, a black Toy Poodle, Charlie, a chocolate Toy Poodle, and Abbie, a Dachshund mix. On Saturdays in the fall, Dr. Shoemake is typically seen wearing orange and blue and cheering on her Auburn Tigers. She and her husband also enjoy attending UNLV basketball games. Dr. Shoemake loves Las Vegas for its variety of nearby activities, especially hiking. She also enjoys traveling, eating sushi and she is currently training for her first ½ marathon with Dr. Snider.
